BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) - Braulio Luna scored on a direct kick in the 55th minute and assisted a goal one minute later as San Luis topped Mexican foe Tigres UANL 3-1 in SuperLiga group play on Tuesday night.
Jose Reyes took a pass from Luna and converted the second goal in the 56th minute for San Luis, which avoided elimination.
Alfredo Moreno settled a cross from Malher Moreno and fired in the clincher in the 76th minute. San Luis can advance to the July 15th semifinal with a win or draw against Chivas USA on Saturday and a loss or draw by Tigres UANL against the Chicago Fire.
"We knew we had to win or the tournament was over for us," San Luis coach Juan Antonio Luna said. "Otherwise, it would just be like taking a vacation to Los Angeles this weekend."
Juan Pablo Garcia Contreras scored for Tigres UANL in the 73rd minute. Tigres UANL can advance to the semifinal with a win over the Fire and a loss or draw by San Luis.
"We're going to try and win," Tigres UANL coach Daniel Guzman said. "Chicago has some young players and we're going to do our best to take advantage of that."
