Benfica signs Javi Garcia from Real Madrid

LISBON, Portugal (AP) - Benfica has signed midfielder Javi Garcia from Real Madrid to a five-year contract.

The Portuguese team said in a statement to the Lisbon Stock Exchange that they paid the Spanish club €7 million ($10 million) for the 22-year-old Garcia.
Garcia, who was at Real Madrid's training camp in Ireland, will play at the Stadium of Light with former Madrid teammate Javier Saviola. The Argentina striker moved from Real Madrid earlier this month on a three-year contract.
