Bremen tops Wolfsburg in German Super Cup

WOLFSBURG, Germany (AP) - German Cup winner Werder Bremen beat Bundesliga champion Wolfsburg 2-1 on Monday to win Germany's Super Cup, which pits the winners of the two domestic competitions against each other.

Bremen's Per Mertesacker scored after 20 minutes and Clemens Fritz notched the winner in the 81st, after Grafite, last season's top league scorer, had tied the game in the 67th.
Captain Torsten Frings failed to convert a last-minute penalty for Bremen.

Both teams rested some of their top stars.
