FC Cologne signs Portugal midfielder Maniche

COLOGNE, Germany (AP) - FC Cologne has signed Portugal midfielder Maniche from Atletico Madrid on a two-year contract.

Maniche joins fellow Portugal midfielder Petit at the Bundesliga club.
Cologne president Wolgang Overath said Monday that "Maniche is a big name in European football. ... We are proud that we could sign him. The second year after promotion is particularly difficult and he can help us with his class and experience."

Cologne coach Zvonimir Soldo said he was pleased with the move.
