RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) - Struggling Brazilian club Fluminense has signed former player Renato Gaucho to be its coach for the fifth time.
Renato Gaucho will replace former Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira, who was fired July 13 after a series of bad results in the Brazilian league.
Fluminense directors had said that Parreira's assistant, Vinicius Eutropio, would remain as the team coach after Parreira left, but the 1984 national champion continued to struggle and the directors decided to rehire Renato Gaucho.
Renato Gaucho coached Fluminense when it won the 2007 Brazilian Cup and when it was runner-up to Ecuador's Liga de Quito in last year's Copa Libertadores.
Fluminense has lost four matches in a row and hasn't won in seven rounds. It is next-to-last in the 20-team standings with 10 points from 12 matches.
The bottom four clubs will be relegated to the second division at the end of the season.
Fluminense's next match is Thursday against Atletico Mineiro in Belo Horizonte.
