Pennant relishing Real opportunity

Former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant believes his style of play may be more suited to Spain after completing his move to Real Zaragoza.

Pennant has joined the newly-promoted Primera Liga side on a free transfer after his deal with the Anfield outfit expired and the 26-year-old feels he may benefit from moving to a country where the pace of the game is not as frenetic as in the Premier League.

He told Sky Sports News: "I'm very excited, it's a new challenge. La Liga is a big league, there are a lot of big players out there now like (Cristiano) Ronaldo and Kaka.

"It'll be a lot slower, more technical, and I think that will suit me more than playing in England.

"The game is a lot slower, the game in England is quick, high-tempo, rough and the game in Spain is technical, so I'm looking forward to it."

Pennant, who has signed a three-year deal, hopes that he could even force his way into England coach Fabio Capello's plans if he can secure regular action in Spain.

He added: "If I can do that (establish myself) then it could even help my international career, maybe even get up that ladder.

"I think I'm the only English player out there, so if he (Capello) does come out to watch, it will only be for one reason.

"I just want to do the best I can. It's going to be hard, but all I can do is give it my best shot, show my potential and reward Zaragoza and myself."
