SAO PAULO (AP) - Three-time defending Brazilian champion Sao Paulo signed Argentine right back Adrian Gonzalez on a one-year contract from San Lorenzo on Tuesday.
Gonzalez was San Lorenzo's captain for the past four years, helping the club win the 2007 Argentine league. He previously played for Banfield and Union Santa Fe.
Sao Paulo is struggling in this year's Brazilian league and is only 12th in the 20-team standings with 14 points from 12 matches. It trails leaders Atletico Mineiro and Palmeiras by 11 points.
"I'm aware of what Sao Paulo is going through," the 32-year-old Gonzalez said. "But it's a traditional club and will eventually overcome this situation."
This month, Sao Paulo also acquired Chilean defender Nelson Saavedra, who signed to the end of the year.
